We all have different stories to share and different starting points.

You may be thinking about creating a memoir or oral history, or you may have already started one. We can help you move forward, as collaborator or ghostwriter. We help you tell your story. Working with Silverplume Press is an intimate process based on sharing and collaboration. The process starts when you contact us and continues with mutual consent for the entire duration of the project. From start to finish, you are in control.

Start with a Free Consultation

Contact us to set up a free 45-minute consultation so we can better understand you and what you want to share. You in turn can learn more about us, our method, our expertise, and what we have to offer. We can use this time to target the stories or life experiences you most want to mine, which will inform the questions we prepare for your interview. To set up a call, email us at info@silverplumepress.com or fill out the short form on the Start Your Story page.

We Present you with OPtions and Pricing

After speaking with you and determining the kind and scope of memoir you hope to create, we present you with a document with specific suggestions for next steps. Pricing depends on the scope of services and is calculated on hourly rates. For all projects, the fees depend on the nature of the work involved. Pricing for interviewing and writing differs from that of proofing or transcription services. Printing, binding, and book production costs are dependent on quantities and design elements.

THE Interview Sessions

Once we discuss options and narrow in on the scope of work, we present you with a contract and suggested timeline for the first series of interviews. The main content of your memoir or oral history will come from interviews between you and Silverplume Press. Interviews may be conducted by phone; over Skype or Google Chat; or in person (SF Bay Area). The interviews will be recorded and transcribed.  You receive a copy of the transcript.

Review of Transcript

You will have a chance to review the transcript for clarity and accuracy. We can then use this content to write a story (or series of stories.) For more information on our methodology, see the description of creative nonfiction on the "what we do" page.

writing and Editing

From the interviews and any other relevant information you provide, we construct a narrative. You will have at least two chances to review, comment, and make suggestions.

Publishing and Printing

At the outset, we will discuss your ideas for printing and book design. Options range from simple printing and binding to deluxe, leather-bound books.
